What no one seemed to notice

The red dots painting, William Eaton, June 2020What no one seemed to notice
That fateful summer
Was the fleas.

But I noticed them,
And they me.

“It’s like your businesses,” they whispered.
“We can’t stop biting
Just cause there’s a pandemic.”

Lo que nadie parecía notar

Lo que nadie parecía notar
ese fatídico verano
era las pulgas.

Pero me di cuenta de ellas,
y ellas a mí.

— Poem(s) and painting by William Eaton. With thanks to many un-shy, hungry little insects who, already this summer, have visited me in Stuyvesant Town and Battery Park, New York City. The title of this painting being The Red Dots Painting, allow me to call attention to The green dots poem, which, thanks to Carolina Rosenstein, now comes with a version in Portuguese, as well as English, French and Spanish.
