Do all cosas avec amour

Do all things with love

Valentine's Day poster from 2020 (living with Lais & Pauline) - William Eaton, 2020Do all things with love
Another T-shirt said
I thought of defecation
Well and so, why not?

And cooking in the kitchen
And getting out of bed
And writing silly poems
And throwing out the mail

I draw some women naked
There’s love in that for sure!
And sports on the radio
And coffee for my head

Do all things with love
Is it that hard to do?
It just takes some remembering
That you love what you do?

— Poem(s) and artwork by William Eaton. The artwork was my Valentine’s Day card from 2020, just before the pandemic broke out in New York City. I was then sharing my apartment with a Brazilian art student (hence the Portuguese) and a young Belgian linguist whose specialty was Russian (hence the French and Russian). A translation of the whole: With you (plural), my heart grows every day.

∩ While this poem was in progress, I came across these lines in D.H. Lawrence’s We are Transmitters:

Even if it is a woman making an apple dumpling, or a man a stool,
if life goes into the pudding, good is the pudding
good is the stool,

Doubly appropriate if Lawrence, with the man’s stool, had defecation in mind. Though my assumption is that he did not.

Fais toutes les choses avec amour

Fais toutes les choses avec amour
Un autre T-shirt disait
J’ai pensé à la défécation
Est-ce qu’on le sait jamais ?

Et cuisiner dans la cuisine
Et sortir de mon lit
Écrire des poèmes hallucinants
Puis le courrier trier

Des femmes nues dessiner
Libérés de sous-vêtements
Avec vieux tubes, je nous divertis
Si les heures manquent l’amusement.

Faire toutes les choses avec amour
C’est trop dur, tu imaginais ?
Sauf si on touche l’amour patient
Qui attend dans tous qu’on fait ?

Haz todas las cosas con amor

Haz todas las cosas con amor
Dice camiseta de mujer
Bueno y ¿por qué no?
Pienso yo en defecar

Y cocinar en la cocina
Despertarme en la cama
Escribir poemas locos
Antes el correo de tirar

Dibujo mujeres sin calzoncillos
¡Seguro que hay ahí amor!
Y en el café donde la tristeza
A veces puede disminuir.

Hacer las cosas con amor
¿Poco entienden las camisetas?
Haya tal vez que concentrarse
Y lo que hagamos amar.
