Scarcely had I arrived in Paris than I went to see a play, and so I can say

Now
After the fact
It was
A very good play
Because
When I was walking home
I found a table
With wheels
So
I could roll it
Back to my new apartment

And so now
My “appart” includes
A table
On which I can write
This poem
Which is a lot shorter
Than the play

Which I would have edited
And, so
I would have returned
At another time
And perhaps
By another route
And the table
Wouldn’t have been
There
Nor the poem

A peine arrivé à Paris, je suis allé voir une pièce de théâtre, et je peux donc dire que

C’était
Une très bonne pièce
Parce que
En rentrant chez moi
J’ai trouvé une table
Avec des roues
Et donc
Je la pouvais rouler

Apenas llegué a París fui a ver una obra de teatro, y por eso puedo decir que

fue
una obra muy buena
porque
cuando volvía a casa
encontré una mesa
con ruedas
y así
podía hacerla rodar
de vuelta
a mi nuevo apartamento

y así ahora
mi “appart” incluye
una mesa
en la que puedo escribir
este poema
que es mucho más corto que
la obra

que yo habría editado
y así
habría vuelto
en otro momento
y tal vez
por otro camino
y la mesa
no habría estado
allí
ni el poema

Addendum

One of the friends with whom I discussed the events described in the poem remarked that perhaps, had the play been shorter and I taken another route homeward, I might have found a yet better table.
