∩ In 1901 Lenin wrote a pamphlet, Что делать? Наболевшие вопросы нашего движения (What Is To Be Done? Burning Questions of Our Movement). The working class, Lenin wrote, was not going to become political by itself, simply by trying to get better wages and working conditions from employers. Instead, Marxists should form a political party, or vanguard, to spread political ideas among the workers. The title Что делать? had been previously used for an influential novel written by the nineteenth century Russian revolutionary Nikolai Chernyshevsky.

Vinimos aquí para ir de aventuras, tumbarse en hermosas playas y ver cascadas y volcanes, y animales que nunca antes habíamos visto. Queremos hincar el diente a la comida local (sin enfermarse) y, sobre todo, tomar muchas fotos de nosotros mismos, sonriendo mientras las aventuras y con bebidas en la playa, y con los animales y nuestros platos de comida y todos nuestros nuevos amigos, y rodeado de un paisaje certificablemente increíblemente increíble, hermoso y exótico. ¡Sólo tenemos una semana, pero son muchas fotos y muchas bebidas! Y tal vez un atractivo hombre moreno o una guapa señorita (aunque aún no nos hemos enganchado).
