Oh I could be at the seashore

Beach collage, William Eaton, 2021

Oh I could be at the seashore

The air, the sounds of the sea

Wearing nothing but my overalls

(Nothing on beneath!)

Breasts of women, tidal pools

The warmth coming over me

O I could be at the seashore

Or here with all of my dreams

— Poem(s) and painting-collage by William Eaton. In September 2026 I replaced the second English line—”Alone with the sound of the sea”—with this one: “The air, the sounds of the sea.” This I could not see how the poem’s I could be alone and yet delighted by “breasts of women.” Ah well.

As for the “peto” en español, perhaps in some hispanophone countries, or in other contexts, this would rather be overoles or mono?

  1. Merci beaucoup pour la poésie. J’aime beaucoup.
