Poème romantique

Depuis peu, Baisers volés, nous l’avons vu,

Mais mon amie jeune, l’avait-elle pris à cœur ?

L’échange de notes à travers la table –

Y a-t-il quoi de plus romantique !

Alors de ma poche, je sors une feuille,

Et y inscris avec mon bic : « Je t’aime, je t’aime, ma chérie »,

Et la feuille je la plie trois fois de suite,

Et la tends à elle au bout de mes doigts.

Dans la liasse qu’avec soin soit dépliée,

Nous savons tous ce qu’elle cachait.

Mais lorsqu’à la fin, mon « Je t’aime” elle lit »…

Je vous laisse songer comme elle sourit.

A romantic poem

Stolen Kisses – Baisers volés – we had recently seen,

But had she really taken it to heart?

The exchange of notes at the breakfast table –

How much more romantic can life get!

Out of my pocket I fished some paper,

And wrote in small letters: “I love you madly.”

And I folded, refolded and refolded that paper

And then, across the table, I handed it to her.

And she, for her part, carefully unfolded it,

Though, having seen the movie, she knew what to expect.

But when she read the words “I love you madly,”

You may imagine her smile.

Juntos habíamos visto los Besos Robados,

Pero, mi amiga, ¿se lo había tomado a pecho?

El intercambio de notas en la mesa del almuerzo –

¡Qué más romántico se puede ser!

Así que saqué un papel del bolsillo

y escribí en él: -¡Cómo te quiero!-.

Y doblé y doblé y doblé el papel,

y se lo entregué, justo a mi lado.

Y ella, por su parte, lo desplegó cuidadosamente.

Sabía de la película qué esperar.

Pero cuando leyó -¡Cómo te quiero!-

Puede imaginarse la sonrisa.
