Nous avions, récemment, vu Baisers volés,
Mais l’avait-elle vraiment le pris à cœur ?
L’échange de notes à la table du déjeuner –
Comment peut-on être plus romantique !

Alors de ma poche, j’ai sorti un morceau,
Et j’ai écrit là-dessus : « Je t’aime à la folie ».
Que j’ai plié, replié, et replié encore,
Et ce bout lui ai tendu à travers la table.

Et elle le papier l’a soigneusement déplié,
Quoiqu’elle savait déjà à quoi s’attendre.
Mais en lisant les mots : « Je t’aime à la folie »…
Comment puis-je décrire son sourire gentil ?

Romantic poem

Stolen Kisses – Baisers volés – we had recently seen,
But had she really taken it to heart?
The exchange of notes at the breakfast table –
How much more romantic can life get!

So out of my pocket I fished a little paper,
And wrote in small letters: “I love you madly.”
And I folded, refolded, refolded that paper
And then, across the table, I gave it to her.

And she, for her part, carefully unfolded it,
Though, having seen the movie, she knew what to expect.
But when she read the words “I love you madly,”
Ah the smile she gave to me!

Pero, ¿se lo había tomado a pecho?
El intercambio de notas en la mesa del almuerzo –
¡Qué más romántico se puede ser!

Así que saqué un papel del bolsillo
y escribí en él: -¡Cómo te quiero!-.
Y doblé y doblé y doblé el papel,
y se lo entregué, justo a mi lado.

Y ella, por su parte, lo desplegó cuidadosamente.
Sabía de la película qué esperar.
Pero cuando leyó -¡Cómo te quiero!-
¡Ah, la sonrisa que me dedicó!
